Di Guttridge
My paintings combine my passion for colour with my awe of the natural landscape. I use cold wax with oils to build up many layers of colour and to gradually encourage organic forms and landscapes to emerge. Each painting carries a history within the physicality of these layers, which for the large part becomes hidden, but which can be hinted at and revealed through transparency, texture and scraped or rubbed back areas.
I consider a painting to be finished when I am happy that it both holds its own energy and also truly represents something of me. A successful painting for me is one that, being abstract and open to interpretation, resonates with a viewer and evokes a personal response.
